The late 1800's Gems of Great Authors showcases the ornate sensibilities of the time which were made possible by advances in printing technology.
The vibrant blue cover contains elaborate gold embossed elements. More notable is the large inset central feature. The center image of pottage flowers sits inset into the book cover by several centimeters. A thick backing to the cover houses this feature, making the front cover much thicker than the back.
Inside the book, decorative landscapes border every page. Large drop caps add to this sense of elegance. The decorated look of every page is emblematic of Victorian era book design and the resources which went into it.
